Vocational Qualifications
In addition to trainees undertaking work placements we encourage them to study for a vocational qualification at a local college. This will ensure that trainees gain practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge and a recognised qualification.
There are many local providers within the Liverpool City Region and we partner with the following organisations:
The City of Liverpool College
The City of Liverpool College is a leading college in the Liverpool area offering over 500 academic and vocational courses and teaching more than a third of all 16-18 year olds in Liverpool to equip them with the skills and experience to successfully move from education into work.
The College has many connections across private, public and voluntary sectors making it an ideal partner to support our Steps to Work programme. With its links to businesses across the Liverpool area, specialism in vocational education, and knowledge of employers’ needs, The City of Liverpool College can provide young people with learning disabilities a programme designed specifically to their needs in order to move into employment or volunteering.
Knowsley Community College
Knowsley Community College is proudly located across three campus sites around the borough. As a college, they have plans to continue to grow
specialist sectors and build on excellent results as the best performing college in the Liverpool City Region. The college’s mission is to “Transform lives through excellence in education and training” The College Group also seeks to add value to the social, economic and physical well-being of the wider communities that they serve.
Greenbank College
The College is small – they have approximately 150 students per year aged 16 to 18 (plus another 500+ older students). This means that they know their students and offer a friendly and supportive environment. Classes are taught in small groups, usually between 8 and 10 people.
They offer courses for disabled and non-disabled students and a very supportive learning environment for everyone.
The College is run by Greenbank, a registered charity whose mission statement is:
“To enhance the opportunities and status of people with disabilities through education, training, employment, transport, sport and recreation.

It’s a wonderful idea that The Salvation Army is going to cultivate youngsters in the precious soil of Strawberry Field.
