Strawberry Field kicked off Christmas at Liverpool's St George's Hall
Strawberry Field was delighted to host our large-scale carol concert in the stunning setting of the Great Hall in Liverpool’s St George’s Hall. ‘Celebrating Christmas with Strawberry Field’, on the Sunday 26th November, saw friends and supporters enjoy a unique start to the festive season in the city.
BBC Radio Merseyside presenter and Liverpool tour guide, Paul Beesley, compered the event with musical accompaniment and contributions from Liverpool Walton Salvation Army Band. Joining in the feast of fun were Liverpool Lighthouse Choir, Britain’s Got Talent contestant Charlie Green and swing vocalist Asa Murphy. Alongside the music, BBC Merseyside’s Helen Jones and Ben Anderson joined Strawberry Field staff and trainees to bring the true meaning of Christmas to life with Bible readings and Major Kathy Versfeld, Mission Director of Strawberry Field, offered a time to pause and reflect.
Proceeds from the event will support the charities, The Salvation Army’s Strawberry Field and St George’s Hall Charitable Trust. All proceeds from the concert will be split across the two charities to help with their ongoing work to support families and young people across the Liverpool City Region. Strawberry Field was previously a Salvation Army children’s home where the young John Lennon came to play and escape. Today, The Salvation Army continues to support young people through the Steps at Strawberry Field programmes. If you would like to support this work, you can make a donation here.
Thank you very much to everyone who came along and to the many people who played a part in making this such a wonderful way to start our Christmas celebrations. Special thanks to Strawberry’s Field Mission Development Officer, Major Allister Versfeld, for bringing everyone together to celebrate.
We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, SATCoL, the trading arm of The Salvation Army, raising money for charity through our nationwide reuse and repurposing schemes, Oriel Studios and Dutch Flower Shop.
