Steps to Work alumni delivers Creative Wellness workshops
Steps to Work graduate, Mike, has been running Creative Wellness workshops with his colleagues at RAWD.
Mike joined the Steps to Work programme to regain his confidence after stepping back from the workforce for personal reasons. He was a natural people person and was able to futher develop his skills and strengths while on placement in the Strawberry Field gift shop. During the Work Readiness portion of the Steps to Work programme, Mike acted as a mentor to other trainees on his cohort, so we knew he was destined for great things.
Mike had a passion for theatre, so he was thrilled when RAWD, a company dedicated to helping disabled people grow through life & art, came to Strawberry Field for a training day. Mike was impressed with the company, so he applied for a role with them which, unsurprisingly to us, resulted in paid employment.
Now, Mike is co-leading a Creative Wellness workshop at RAWD, designed for adults who identify as learning disabled and/or neurodiverse. The in-person workshops offer a supportive space to explore emotional wellbeing through mindfulness, movement, and art. These inclusive sessions encourage participants to clear their minds, move, and discover inner calm.
We are so proud of Mike and how far he has come. It's fantastic that he can use his experience and skills to help others through a medium he is passionate about. If you would like to find out more about Mike's Creative Wellness workshops, which run until 9th December, head to the RAWD website.
